Scriptures: Psalm 23:4, 116:15, Matthew 10:28, Hebrews 13:5-6

Fear—we all know what it is. It is one of the most debilitating emotions known to the human race. Fear is unbelievably powerful. It penetrates the heart, it poisons the spirit, and it paralyzes the soul. It can affect you not only emotionally, mentally, and spiritually; it can even affect you physically. Most people, at some level, fear death. In this message from Psalm 23:4, Dr. Merritt explains that although we all have to face death, we need not fear it. In the text, the Good Shepherd tells His sheep how to face death without fear.

"Now you may not realize this, but we live in the valley of the shadow of death from the time we are born until the time we die. What we are doing right now is walking through that valley. We enter the valley when we come into this world, and we exit the valley when we leave this world. But I want you to notice the name of the valley. It's not the 'valley of death' it is the 'valley of the shadow of death.' Do you know what a shadow is? A shadow is an image without substance. Did you know that if you are a child of God, you don't face death, you only face death's shadow? That's why David said when it comes to death, I have 'no fear.'" --Dr. Merritt
