If there is one commandment of the Ten Commandments that is usually thought to be irrelevant, it is the second commandment. However, it may be second in position because it is second in importance. This commandment is one that is probably the most easily ignored and, yet, the most blatantly broken. The second commandment deals explicitly with the sin of idolatry. The first commandment tells us not to worship the wrong god; the second commandment tells us not to worship the right God the wrong way. The first commandment is against false gods; the second commandment is against false worship. The first commandment tells us who we are to worship; the second commandment tells how we are to worship. The first commandment tells us that worship is to be singular; we are to worship only God. The second commandment tells us worship is to be spiritual; we are to worship God in spirit and in truth. In this message, Dr. Merritt unpacks the sin of idolatry and how we can worship God in the way He intended.

"Just as there is a curse to false worship, there is a blessing to true worship. There is nothing more important than your worship, because there is nothing more important than your relationship to God, and your worship is simply the outward expression of that inward relationship." --Dr. Merritt
