No Doubt About It

Doubt is a fact of life.  Too much doubt and God's people can not be victorious in their spiritual battles.  In this message Dr. Merritt explains doubt and how believers can move from doubt to faith.

 

From No Doubt About It

 

"Have you ever lived in the dark shadow of doubt?
• Does one minute it seem perfectly natural and unquestionable that God exists and cares for the world and the next moment uncommonly naive?
• Someone at work says, "Christians check their brains at the door of the church every Sunday and most of them don't even bother to pick them up on the way out." Do you ever find yourself agreeing?
• How confident are you that you know God's desires regarding specific political, social and moral issues which face our society?
• Do you ever wonder if there really is a God? A heaven? A hell?
• Do you ever doubt that prayer really makes a difference?
• Do you ever doubt your own relationship with God?

"If you can relate to any of these scenarios I've got some encouraging news for you. You just decided to join the rest of us. Did you know that even the strongest believers in the Bible had their doubts? If you go back and read the Psalms, you will find that David had his doubts. Read the Book of Ecclesiastes and you will find that Solomon had his doubts. Read the Book of Job; it is full of doubt. Read the Prophet Jeremiah, a God-called preacher and you will find his doubts even drove him to tears.

"I've let you in on a secret today. The church has been afflicted with a spiritual virus called "doubt" ever since its beginning. I like the way Lee Strobel put it. He said, "We could divide Christians into three groups. The first would consist of those who have doubted. The second would be those who haven't doubted yet, but who will. The third group would be those who are brain-dead."

"I want to put your mind at ease. There is nothing wrong with doubt. Faith presupposes doubt and by the very nature of what faith is it has to be preceded by doubt. After all, if there is no room for doubt, there is no place for faith. "
