Without the right foundation, relationships can face a long, hard journey. Thankfully, we are not part of a society that embraces arranged marriages. Can you even imagine? Two people are supposed to commit their lives to each other – often having never even met. They have no history, no experience together on which to base their trust, and no emotional bond. Often it is religious tradition that sets the parameters for such a relationship.

In much the same way, how can a person commit his or her life to a deity that they have never even met? Would it surprise you to know that God does not expect you to enter into covenant with Him blindly? Though He already knows you better than you know yourself, He wants you to get to know Him, to build a history with Him on which you can learn to trust Him. He is not interested in building a relationship with you based on control, but one where you can be confident and secure in who He is and what He has provided for you.
