"The blue prints for a happy home begin with the parents. A nation never rises above its homes and a home never rises above its parents. This means - I am a model.
"Parents, we are whether we like it or not, role models to our children. We are the example setters. There is one thing I learned many times the hard way. Character is not taught to your children. It is caught by your children. How we live screams so loudly that our kids can't hear many times what we say. If your attitude towards your child is, "don't do as I do, do as I say do", you are headed for failure.
"I want to say in particularly to the fathers, there is really no substitute for a father who shows his child by the way he lives, by the language that he uses, by the places that he goes, by the television programs that he watches, by the books that he reads, that he fears the Lord.
"When my kids were growing up, I don't mind telling you there were many times that I failed in the area of setting an example. Just like all of us, I have my own failures, my own flaws, and my own faults. I have my own character defects. There were two areas that I was particularly sensitive to because of my own father. My father used to be a heavy drinker and sometimes his language was just to put it mildly less than desirable.
"There were two things I determined that my kids would never see or hear in me. They would never see me drink and they would never hear me use profanity."
